Organic farming is done on the basis of the natural relationship between the soil, the plants, the animals and human beings. We know that agricultural land is the basis of life, and that the quality of the soil has a positive impact on the health of the plants and the animals grown or raised here, and on the people who work here or visit us.
Our capital is the land that we cultivate. This is why we preserve its naturalness, and our yield in terms of plants and animals is based on the careful cultivation and treatment of the soil that is orientated to its metabolic cycle.
A plant can not actually "catch" diseases the way human beings do when they catch a cough or a cold. If a plant "falls ill", its "illness" is the result of a change in its environment and the lack of adaptation to a new, often artificially created, environment.
What comprises the environment of a plant or an animal? It is the soil. It is the other plants and animals in or on this soil, but it is also the water running through it, and the light that supplies it with energy. All of this is what we call the site or the site conditions. It is this individual site of the Domäne Mechtildshausen and its conditions that shape our work and that require constant adaptation. And we are constantly aware of these conditions. It is also the conclusions drawn by our staff from the observations they have made that guide the way we approach and handle things. We keep the soil healthy by organizing a closed ecological life and energy cycle. This balance is the key to success.
Everything you will see and experience during your visit to the Domäne Mechtildshausen, e.g. the beauty of the estate, the products, the animals, and the people working on the Domäne, are part of this cycle.
