The Domäne Mechtildshausen farms a total area of 650 hectares at four sites: Mechtildshausen with 185 hectares, Hofgut Klarenthal with approx. 30 hectares, Gassenbacher Hof in Idstein with approx. 140 hectares and Watzelhain in the Taunus with approx. 60 hectares. The rest consists of pastures in the Taunus hills and meadows near the River Rhine.

After taking over the Domäne in 1987, we began to transform production according to organic and biological principles. After a five-year transformation period, the Domäne was recognized as an organic farmer by "BIOLAND" (N° 60 889) on 1 May 1992. Certification followed by the European Community on 1 July 1992.

Farming according to organic and biological principles comprises, amongst others, the renunciation of mineral fertilizers and synthetic pesticides and insecticides. In addition, the agricultural year and crop planning follow the principles of the ecological life cycle.
